Successful auditions win Maya and Sophia places on the Royal Academy of Music’s Junior Academy Musical Theatre Programme

23 April 2024

Congratulations to drama and performing arts scholars Maya and Sophia, Year 8, on their fantastic achievement of winning places on the Royal Academy of Music’s Junior Academy Musical Theatre Programme, following a highly competitive selection process. Starting from September, on Saturdays in term time they’ll be working on acting, voice, singing, musical theatre repertoire and movement, with projects and masterclasses led by top industry professionals.

After submitting audition tapes, Maya and Sophia were invited to a live audition shortly before the Easter holidays. Maya chose to perform God Help the Outcasts from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Sophia, When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2. The four-person panel asked both to sing their songs again in a different style – Maya as if she were angry and Sophia with an American accent – as well as questioning them about their choice of song and their reasons for wanting to join the Academy.

The twins are very excited about their well-deserved success, saying: “It all happened very fast, but we’re so happy that we both got in and we can’t wait to start the programme in September!”
