Sacred Heart Exchange Programme sees Dami head to Seattle and Woldingham welcome two students from the USA

23 April 2024

In the Easter holidays, Year 9 student Dami spent a “super fun and exciting” two weeks in the USA, staying with the family of her Sacred Heart Exchange partner Laine and attending the Sacred Heart School Forest Ridge, near Seattle. Dami (pictured with Laine at a tulip festival) shares her thoughts on this enriching experience below.

Laine stayed with Dami’s family in March, experiencing life in Year 9 at Woldingham, while Dua, from Sacred Heart Greenwich, Connecticut joined Year 10, following her exchange partner Athena’s visit to the US last October. Both students from the US enjoyed their time in the valley, immersing themselves in activities such as Strictly Come Wold, our Spring Concert and House fundraising.

Woldingham is working closely in partnership with six US Sacred Heart schools to place students currently in Year 9 on exchanges in the next academic year. For more information, please contact Mrs Alison Alder, Sacred Heart Exchange Coordinator.

Dami, Year 9

Going on an American exchange gave me the chance to experience a new culture. For example, I got to try lots of types of restaurants we don’t have in England. It was also so much fun to see how different things are in America, compared to the UK.

Another great thing about my exchange was making new friends. I met a lot of really nice people and many of Laine’s friends. We had so much fun exploring Seattle together. It was cool to make memories that will last a lifetime.

The exchange was a really fun experience, which I would recommend to anyone. It’s a chance to step out of your comfort zone, make new friends and have a ton of fun exploring a new city and a new country.

So if you get the chance to take part, don’t hesitate! Trust me, it will be an experience you’ll never forget. Thank you Woldingham for giving me this opportunity.
