Oxbridge applicants prepare for interviews with specialist subject presentations to Kritikos students

4 October 2024

Mrs Katharine Payne, Head of Kritikos

As useful preparation for upcoming interviews, Upper Sixth students making Oxbridge applications delivered a talk on their specialist subject to students on our academic stretch programme, Kritikos, in Years 7-11. The talks spanned a wide range of topics. Scientists explored renewable energy in Nigeria, the science of love, and the engineering of the Large Hadron Collider. Meanwhile in the humanities field, themes ranged from Victorian Gothic to women’s literature from Classical civilisations, through the Tudor and Regency periods. It was evident that our Oxbridge applicants had read widely and thought deeply about the topics they chose to explore. Some also came up with great ways to get the audience to interact. There was plenty of interaction in the subsequent Q&A sessions, with probing questions from Kritikos students, who learnt a lot from the presentations, and well-considered answers from our presenters.

Good luck to all our Oxbridge applicants, who demonstrated great knowledge and understanding of their topics, built on the foundation of extensive research.
