Visit to historical Hever a highlight for boarders

16 October 2024

Year 9 boarders Fernanda and Maria, who joined the school in September, have been making the most of all the opportunities on offer to them at Woldingham. A particular highlight was a recent weekend trip to nearby Hever Castle, where they immersed themselves in British history.

Fernanda and Maria, Year 9

On Saturday 7 October, boarders in Years 7 to 9 boarders visited Hever Castle and its gardens. We toured the castle listening to audio guides (see photos below), learning about the fascinating lives of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and exploring rooms where they spent time so long ago. Hever Castle has a very beautiful structure, is covered in long vines and has a drawbridge.

After the tour, we had a marvellous time walking through the astonishing gardens that encircle the castle and enjoying some ice cream and warm doughnuts. After the delicious snacks, we tried our luck in the mazes, doing our best not to get lost. One of the mazes is a water maze and we had lots of fun trying not to get splashed.

Before heading home, we went to the gift shop, where we bought stuffed animals and souvenirs to remember the trip. It was an unforgettable outing, where we bonded and made amazing memories. We truly enjoy our weekends in boarding, with so many fun trips and something new every week.
