Miss Alison May, Teacher of PE - Surrey Schools Athletics Championships

On Saturday 8 June, three Woldingham athletes competed for the South Surrey team in the Surrey Schools Athletics Championships at the Weir and Archer track in Kingston upon Thames.

Daisy L, Year 8, ran excellently in the Junior Girls 1500 metres to finish in 8th place, only just outside her PB. Daisy will get another chance to run in this age group next year and has set her sights on achieving a new PB.

In the high jump, Amaya S, Year 8, competed in the Junior Girls category and Eliska S, Year 10, in the Inter Girls events. Both jumped well, against some stiff opposition, and enjoyed the experience. Like Daisy, Amaya and Eliska hope to be selected again next year to compete in the same age group with another year’s experience and training under their belts.

Well done to Daisy, Amaya and Eliska (main photo) for being such great ambassadors for Woldingham.

Miss Lauren Hindley, Teacher of PE – Year 7 District Athletics Championship

Nine Year 7 students represented Woldingham at this year’s Championship (see photo in gallery below).

In perfect weather for athletics, our students demonstrated excellent camaraderie, supporting each other across various events. Their determination and effort were evident as they strove to achieve the best results possible. This supportive environment significantly contributed to the overall positive experience of the day. Amelia delivered an outstanding performance, securing first place in the long jump - testament to her skill and hard work.  Both Coco and Leila displayed impressive efforts, each finishing fourth in her event - Coco excelling in the hurdles and Leila showing her prowess in the javelin. These achievements added valuable points to Woldingham’s overall score, helping the team secure 5th place in a strong field of 13 participating schools.

Our athletes’ performance and sportsmanship were exemplary. The team set a high standard for future competition. We look forward to building on this success in the coming years.
