Year 10 packs psychometric testing, entrepreneurship, everyday finance, and overseas university applications into one busy day

6 June 2024

Mrs Janet Travis, Director of Higher Education and Careers

On Tuesday 4 June, students in Year 10 had a thorough introduction to the world of work at their Careers Day, which began with them completing the Morrisby psychometric test. The Morrisby Profile looks at each student’s strengths in the areas of numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning, plus mechanical and spatial ability. These results combine with ‘Aspirations’ and ‘Personality Type’ questionnaires to provide each student with a detailed insight into her potential and relative strengths, as well as guidance on subjects and courses that may be appropriate. The aim of the profile is to help Year 10 students make a start in setting future goals.

The next session, delivered by Elent Financial Education, gave Year 10 an insight into everyday finance including salaries, deductions, savings and student loans. In the afternoon, students explored entrepreneurship, developing their own business ideas and gaining an understanding of the importance of branding.

After school students and parents, along with peers in Year 11 and Lower Sixth, enjoyed a talk from David Hawkins, founder of ‘The University Guys’, about applying to university overseas. David’s experience is invaluable. He explained the differences between applying to university in the UK compared to overseas, and the importance of starting the application journey early to maximise the chances of success.

Thank you to Mr Philbin, Careers Advisor, for his help in organising such a valuable day.
