Year 7’s visit to Fishbourne Palace ‘opened doors in our minds’

Lucy R, Year 7

On Wednesday 5 June, Year 7 ventured back into Roman culture, language and architecture at Fishbourne Palace, the largest remaining Roman palace in England, located in Chichester in Sussex.

We all had a wonderful time and really enjoyed experiencing ancient ways. Our visit helped expand our learning because, not only did we discover more about things we’d already been taught about in class, it also opened doors in our minds to new interests and opportunities to explore more about Latin.

We enjoyed every activity but the one that stood out the most was the workshop, where we looked at ancient Roman artefacts and put our archaeological knowledge to the test. Then we had fun dressing up as ancient Celtic kings and queens. A special highlight was looking at all the mosaics, intricately crafted on the floors of what was once a luxurious Roman residence.
