Mr Phil Abbott, Head of Sixth Form
‘All the benefits of continuity, of being seen and heard, known and nurtured, but it is anything but business as usual’ was the one key message I asked students and parents to take away about Woldingham’s Sixth Form after our open evening last week. And ‘anything but business as usual’ was no more apparent than in our surroundings, as we hosted the event in and around our fabulous new Sixth Form Centre and whole school library.
More than 200 students and parents heard from their chosen five of the passionate subject specialists teaching our 26 A Levels, as well as learning more about our outstanding extra- and super-curricular opportunities, including the Sophia programme, unique to Woldingham, which develops critical thinking, reasoning and intellect. In a world where ‘fake news’ abounds - and spreads at alarming speed though social media - such an education has never been more important.
There was a real ‘fizz’ about the evening; our Year 11 students and prospective applicants from other schools were clearly excited to be thinking about the next step of their academic journey, as well as better understand how Woldingham will help them develop the skills they need, not just to succeed in public examinations, but in their personal and professional life thereafter.
