Blessing and tree planting mark official opening of Woldingham’s Sixth Form Centre and new Library and celebrate the benefits it brings for students

18 October 2024

The official opening of Woldingham’s Sixth Form Centre and new Library on Thursday 17 October was a wonderful celebration of our superb new facility and, above all, the benefits students are reaping from all it has to offer. Fr Gerry led a joyful service to bless the new building, accompanied by our Amaris choir. Sr Cath Lloyd RSCJ planted an ornamental cherry tree to mark the occasion and celebrate 180 years of the Society of the Sacred Heart in England and Wales. Vicky Lorenzato, the education representative from the Society, read a poignant poem about how the newly planted tree symbolises Woldingham’s foundation as the first Sacred Heart school in England in 1842.

We were delighted to be joined by over 70 guests, many of whom worked tirelessly on the project, and to whom Catharine Berwick, Chair of Governors, expressed her sincere thanks. Among the gathered assembly were guests from our main contractor, Sunninghill, our consultant teams of architects, surveyors and interior designers, as well as governors, senior staff and members of the wider Woldingham community.

There was a sense of enormous pride amongst guests to know that our new building, which was delivered on time and on budget, is already having a hugely positive impact on the girls’ study and learning. We would like to thank everyone who was involved in the delivery of this fabulous new facility, which will benefit many generations of Woldingham girls in the years to come.
