Rebecca T, Year 8
Some of us in Year 8 who are studying German were lucky enough to go on a trip to Basel, Switzerland at the end of November to visit its Christmas Market. We were well prepared for the trip having role played shopping at the stalls with Mr Ceska in our lessons, as well as learning about German specialities and the sights we would see in Basel.
On the trip, as well as shopping at the Christmas market, we visited the Paper Museum and the Basler Münster. At the Paper Museum we were shown how to make paper by hand in the traditional way and had a go ourselves (see photos below). At the Basler Münster, we used our German skills to find Erasmus of Rotterdam's tomb, having learnt about him in class. The Basler Münster was beautiful, and right outside were the Christmas market stalls, where we all tried the amazing Swiss hot chocolate and bought some souvenirs to take home. It was really fun to use our German skills in real-life situations.
