Performers share a part of their culture with peers at this year’s vibrant International Evening

This year’s International Evening on Wednesday 12 February was a fantastic celebration of Woldingham’s cultural diversity. Students took the lead to put together a truly entertaining, vibrant and culturally rich show in a buzzing auditorium, colourfully decorated with flags representing many different nationalities. Students made an incredible effort to dress up in national costume and the evening saw traditional print Thai trousers, colourful African shirts and even Russian fur hats.

This year’s show was a brilliant mix of highly emotional and melodic acts, together with incredibly enthusiastic and energetic ones. We had the pleasure of some of our Chinese Sixth Formers singing a beautiful song about what it feels like to leave home to go abroad, while others sang about coming of age and graduation. Clara and Chloe, veterans of International Evening, opened the show and did not disappoint with their Korean game, followed by a dance to a Korean song, where they were joined by many of their friends. Kira and Taya mesmerised the audience with their Russian-inspired sketch and their dance to Rasputin. It was also a real treat to see our Thai girls working as a team as they took over the stage and put on a fantastic dance combining several songs from home and some very groovy Thai-inspired moves! Always a favourite with the audience, some of our students had choreographed a very dynamic African-inspired dance that got everyone on their feet clapping along and following their moves.

Thank you to all our performers for sharing a little part of their culture with their peers. This was a truly special occasion where everyone embraced and celebrated our richly diverse community. You can see more photos from the show in the gallery below.
