At the end of another great half-term of sport at Woldingham, it’s wonderful to reflect on the dedication, resilience, and achievements of our students across a wide range of sports. From thrilling netball fixtures and strong hockey performances to the continued growth of football and cricket, students have shown outstanding commitment both in training and competition. We have also enjoyed seeing individual excellence shine, with students reaching national and international levels in a range of sports.
Netball season round up – Miss Lauren Hindley, Head of Netball
In a great netball season, with more than 150 fixtures played and an amazing 163 students representing the school, one of the most exciting events was the recent morning of masterclasses led by England Roses star Natalie Metcalf. Natalie focused on attacking skills in the three highly enjoyable sessions (main photo and more in gallery below), rewarding one player from each session with a signed piece of England kit for especially outstanding effort - congratulations to Iggy, Tife and Thomasina. All our players found learning from a professional player hugely inspirational.
Our netball teams have had an amazing run this year, showing determination and skill in every match. In the district tournaments, our U13A, U14A, U14B, U15A, and U15B teams all earned well-deserved wins, while our U12A & U12B teams put in fantastic effort to finish as runners-up. There were more brilliant results the district leagues, where our U13A, U14A, and U16A teams took 1st place, our U15A and U15B teams finished in 2nd place and U12B secured a 3rd place spot. The excitement continued in the Sisters in Sport Tournament, where U13A and U14A fought their way to the quarter-finals, and the 1st team to the semi-finals. To top it off, the U13A team qualified for the Surrey Schools Finals Day, showcasing their talent among the best teams in the county.
This season has been packed with brilliant performances, team spirit, and memorable moments. Well done to every player who stepped onto the court this year – your hard work and enthusiasm have been incredible.

The 1st XI had a commendable season, competing in the Tier 2 Cup and securing a thrilling first-round victory against Worth on penalties. The 2nd XI took on tough competition in the regional Tier 3 tournament, showcasing determination and skill, with standout goalkeeping from Onome.
The U15A team showed significant growth throughout the season, developing their gameplay and team camaraderie. They ended the term with their strongest performance yet, narrowly losing to Sutton High in a hard-fought match. The U14A team impressed in the Tier 2 County Tournament, going unbeaten in the first two rounds, while the U14B team also delivered excellent performances, demonstrating the depth of talent within the year group. The U13s displayed remarkable progress, coming close to advancing in the regional stage of the Tier 2 competition after a tightly contested match against St Teresa’s. Year 7 hockey players embraced their first season at Woldingham with enthusiasm, showing fantastic improvement and depth within their talented cohort.
The 1st XI kicked off the season with a successful pre-season tour to Nottingham, adapting brilliantly to a new style of play. The U13 teams had a fantastic tour to Ascot, securing multiple wins and strengthening team spirit. The U14s continued their development through competitive fixtures, further solidifying Woldingham’s strong hockey presence. With such dedication and progress across all teams, it’s been a fantastic term for hockey at Woldingham. Well done to all our players for your hard work and commitment.
Cricket report – Mr Darryl Rebbetts, Head of Cricket
After an excellent winter of indoor preparation, we are very excited for the upcoming outdoor season. We have expanded our hardball teams, now offering competitive opportunities at U13 (Years 7 & 8), U14, U15, and U18 levels, which allows more students to develop their skills in a structured and challenging environment. At the same time, our softball cricket programme continues to thrive, particularly for girls who are beginning their cricket journey or simply playing for fun. Teams at U12, U13, U14 and U15 levels enjoy a full schedule of matches and training sessions throughout the season.
A highlight of the summer will be our U14 hardball tour to Cheltenham in June, where players will compete in a high-quality environment while building team spirit and experience. We are also looking forward to taking part in various softball and hardball County and District tournaments across the season, giving students of all levels the chance to compete and develop their game.
Football report – Miss Karleen Daley, Teacher of PE
Woldingham footballers have shown outstanding commitment this term. The dedication to Thursday after-school training has been remarkable, with players consistently pushing themselves to improve. Fun Football Fridays have also been a huge success, offering a relaxed and enjoyable environment for students to develop their skills and love for the game.
Beyond training, the team has demonstrated incredible resilience in fixtures, facing challenges head-on and showing great teamwork throughout the season. A highlight of the term was the fantastic engagement in the FA initiative to encourage girls to get involved in sports. More than 50 students joined us on the astro for a kickabout, showing just how much enthusiasm there is for football at Woldingham.

On the cross country front, Daisy L in Year 9 represented Surrey at the English Schools Cross Country Championships. The Surrey team finished 4th out of 44 counties - an impressive result in an extremely competitive field.
Finally, in rugby, Noush (U16) and Florence (U14) have reached the finals of the Surrey Waterfall Cup, which will take place at The Twickenham Stoop, home to Harlequins. This is an incredible venue and testament to both players’ hard work and talent on the field.
