Year 10 & 11 students of French recently enjoyed a screening of Molière's 'Les Fourberies de Scapin' and, fittingly, then lunched at a nearby crêperie. Two of their write ups of the trip are shared below – with translations for those of us whose French is a little rusty these days…
Voyage d’une journée à l’Institut Français / A day trip to the French Institute
Aujourd’hui, tous les élèves qui étudient le français sont allées à Londres pour regarder un film d’une pièce de théâtre appelée « Les Fourberies de Scapin » de Molière. Nous l’avons trouvée très comique et les acteurs principaux étaient vraiment talentueux. A midi, on est allées à une crêperie située au cœur de South Kensington, où nous avons mangé de délicieuses crêpes salées et sucrées ! En conclusion, nous nous sommes bien amusées, et nous remercions Mme Emery, Mme Maillot et Mme Poullain de nous avoir emmenées.
Today, all of the French students went to London in order to watch a screening of a play called, Les Fourberies de Scapin, by Molière. We found it very comic and the actors were incredibly talented. For lunch, we went to a crêperie situated in the heart of South Kensington, where we had delicious savoury and sweet crêpes!
Overall, we had a very good time and we thank Madame Emery, Madame Maillot and Madame Poullain for taking us.

Journée à l’Institut Français / A day at the French Institute
Le mardi 16 Janvier, nous sommes allées à l’Institut Français dans le quartier français « South Kensington ». Il y avait des embouteillages donc nous étions un petit peu en retard. Quand nous sommes arrivées, nous sommes allées au ciné Lumière, où les chaises étaient très confortables, et nous avons regardé une pièce de théâtre, au sujet d’un homme qui s’appelle Scapin et ses copains. A la fin, il meurt. C’était vraiment rigolo! J’ai pensé que l’histoire était intelligente particulièrement la fin, c’était génial. Après ça, nous sommes allées à une crêperie près du ciné. Les crêpes y étaient délicieuses ! Évidemment, ma crêpe préférée était la crêpe avec du Nutella ! Quand nous avons fini de manger, nous sommes retournées à l’Institut Français et nous avons travaillé sur l’étude d’un film qui s’appelle “Les Héritiers” et nous avons étudié l’affiche. C’était très intéressant, mais malheureusement, nous n’avons pas pû regarder le film parce que nous avons été obligées de retourner au collège. J’ai pensé que l’Institut était très informatif et je voudrais y retourner.
On Tuesday the 16th of January, we went to the French institute in South Kensington. There was traffic on the way so we were a little late! When we arrived, we went to the 'Ciné Lumière' (which had very comfortable chairs!) and we watched a play about a man called Scapin and his friends. At the end, he died. It was very funny! I thought that the story was clever, especially the end, it was great! After that, we went to a crêperie near the cinema. The crêpes were delicious. Obviously my favourite was the crêpe with Nutella! When we finished eating, we returned to the French institute and we learnt about a film called 'Les Héritiers' (The Heirs) and we studied the poster. It was very interesting but unfortunately, we couldn’t watch the film because we had to return to school. I thought that the institute was very informative and I would like to return.
