On Friday 2nd March, Bishop Christopher Chessun, the Bishop of Southwark, confirmed three students and two staff in the school Chapel. We were delighted that the Bishop, family and friends made every effort to join together in prayer despite the heavy snowfall!
The Bishop reminded the candidates that they had to take responsibility for their own personal faith journey. He shared with the congregation ideas expressed by the candidates to grow in the knowledge of faith, the importance of being inspired by the faith and solidarity of family and friends. Confirmation he said, allowed the candidates to focus on making their own promises and take responsibility for growing in faith through a greater connectivity with the church and beyond.
The Bishop told the candidates that they belonged to a community of faith where they must take time to put others before themselves. The challenge was put to all of us by St Paul when he said, “there are a variety of gifts, but the same Spirit” which we are encouraged to use wisely and unselfishly in serving each other as our gifts and talents are “activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses” (1 Cor 12:4-13). After the service we all gathered in the Goddard Room for a reception and an opportunity to meet with Bishop Christopher.
Please keep all of the Confirmation group in your prayers as they continue their journey in faith.
