Woldingham students have performed extremely strongly in this year’s Intermediate Mathematical Challenge, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust; 52 girls in Years 9 to 11 gained certificates that are awarded only to the top 40% of entrants.
An impressive tally of ten students subsequently took part in the invitation-only higher tier challenges, with Luna Li and Sarah Adegbite awarded Merit in the Olympiad and Kangaroo rounds, respectively.
Head of Mathematics, Mrs Mia Kazi-Fornari, commented: ‘Having ten students progress to the advanced stages is exceptional and gaining merits puts Luna and Sarah into the top 0.1% of elite mathematicians nationally. This is a fantastic example of the breadth and depth of Maths excellence at Woldingham, not to mention Girl Power! I am really proud of them and delighted with their achievements and the hard work and dedication of my department.’
