The athletics season is in full swing and Woldingham’s athletes put in a strong performance at the Surrey Schools Track and Field Championships earlier this month, with Charlotte Alexander and Isobel Penniceard taking first and second places in the 1500m, and third places for Georgia Velasco in shot put and Sophie Foster in javelin. On the back of this, Charlotte has qualified for the England National Schools Championships – the other girls are still waiting to hear.
One week later, Charlotte competed in the U20 3000m at the England Athletics Championships and took a fantastic 4th place. Her time of 9:38:59 is well inside the European Youth Championships qualifying time and she is currently waiting to hear if she will be picked to represent Great Britain.
Also hoping for qualification, this time for the Laser Run National School Games Final, is Bini Jones, following her gold in the South West event in Bath earlier this month. After 11 out of 12 events, Bini is in third place in her age group, with the final top five set to compete at Loughborough University later in the summer. Bini's place in the England Team 2019 is confirmed, however, following her bronze in the U13 girls épée at the England Youth Championships last weekend.
Congratulations are also due to Maria Mosier who, as part of her gymnastic club’s Level 3 Senior Team, achieved first place at the London Regional Team Heathrow Competition recently.
On the subject of teams, in this week's District competitions, brilliant hitting and sharp fielding saw our U14 rounders team crowned champions, our U12A rounders team finishing as runners up, and second place for our U13 athletics team.
