It’s a rare programme where Grieg rubs shoulders with Bon Jovi, Sheeran follows Haydn and Mendelssohn’s Venetian Boat Song meets the Colonel Bogey March – but it makes for excellent entertainment! Trombones, flutes, drums and ukuleles to the ready, the girls once again demonstrated a huge variety of musical talent at the aptly named ‘Anything Goes’ summer concert - including for composition, with students from Year 7 to the Sixth Form performing self-penned work.
There were too many fabulous performances to single anyone out (if you missed it, make sure you join us next year), however, special mention must go the Year 10 students who showcased their GCSE performance work. Director of Music, Mr Hargreaves, explained that performance will count for 30% of their final mark and that this opportunity to perform in front of large, live audience was too good to miss – and they went down a treat!
The evening was brought to a close by the orchestra performing a fabulously fun piece, ‘Oye como va’. The audience was invited to sing along and gamely did so; it’s doubtful that any Spanish speakers will have been impressed by our efforts, but it made for a joyful end to a lovely evening.
