5 July 2018
Sports Day took place in fantastic, if somewhat hot, weather on Wednesday 4 July. There was plenty of House spirit in evidence, with cheers and applause for some outstanding performances, as well as encouragement for those who were struggling with the heat.
Some exceptional sprinting from Anastasia Cecil Gurney and India Phibbs in Year 7 placed them as contenders for the Victrix Ludorum, which is awarded to the most successful athlete on the day. Year 8 girls also displayed some brilliant skills, with Bini Jones coming 3rd in the Victrix. Year 9 athletes shone as well, particularly outstanding sprinter and long jumper Elisha Summers who walked away with 2nd place in the Victrix. Isabelle Penniceard dominated the distance events for Year 10, while Georgia Velasco in Lower Sixth was outstanding in the shot put. The Victrix Ludorum was awarded to Nicole Williams in Year 8 who accumulated an impressive 78 points for her achievements in the high jump and 100m and 200m.
The overall House competition was fiercely contested, with the top spot held by three of the Houses over the course of the afternoon. In the end it was Duchesne who emerged victorious to regain their title. Digby and Stuart were tied in second place, with Barat finishing fourth. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
