This was a spectacular afternoon of choral workshops at Woldingham School, culminating in a finale by the junior school choirs - described by one parent as ‘a truly uplifting evening’.
Director of Music, John Hargreaves, noted the pupils’ commitment and concentration as well as their singing ability. Adjudicator, Jane Werry, was impressed by all the performances, commenting on their precision and confidence in singing to a packed auditorium. Hornsby House impressed with the clarity of their diction, focused harmonies and ability to build the song. St David’s Roller Ghoster was praised for its confident part-singing, excellent communication and exuberance. Cumnor House ‘packed a punch’ and captured the jazz style of Red Boots beautifully. Eaton House displayed energy, focus and enjoyment and excellent dynamic contrasts. Dolphin choir’s staccato and legato contrasts were applauded, alongside excellent articulation in The Rhythm of Life. Oakhyrst Grange gave a committed and confident performance of All Good Gifts which was clearly well-rehearsed and polished.
The winners were The Roche with Hallelujah which was notable for its mesmerising effect on the audience, creating drama and atmosphere with beautiful dynamics and assured direction. Well done to all for an incredible display of singing such assured performances.
