Our U15B Netball team have become District Champions and our U15C team, runners up in the District Shield. The respective team captains reflect on their success:
On Wednesday 10th October, we took part in the U15 District Netball competition with the ambition of winning once again. The sun was shining as we played the all-important matches that would determine our fate, and everyone was in good spirits; the only things standing between us and the trophy were the four other teams in our group: Warlingham School, Royal Albert and Alexandra School, Reigate School and Oxted School. The team embraced the challenge of playing some tough teams and, as each match went on, we grew in confidence and started to play as an efficient unit, turning over balls and getting them down to our wonderful shooters who finished the job. Despite some frighteningly close matches, and shouts from Mrs Whitton from the sideline when we rushed with the ball, our excitement perhaps a bit too overpowering, we overcame the challenge, defeating all the teams before going on to ecstatically lift the trophy once more!
Sophie Denny, U15B Netball Team Captain
It was a lovely sunny afternoon and perfect conditions for the C team District Match. We arrived at Royal Albert and Alexandra School and played schools including Riddlesdown and The Beacon. We got off to a pleasing start, with our shooters scoring many goals, excellent passes in the centre court and great interceptions by the defence, leading to a first match win. Our enthusiasm continued throughout, but after a well-contested match The Beacon’s fast-paced, aggressive defence meant they were victorious in our second match. However, this loss didn’t get in the way of our third match and, as our shooters gained in confidence, our accuracy improved and helped us to another win. During the tournament, most of our passing and movement around the court was impressive and every team member played their part. Although there are many areas for improvement, we showed good possession of the ball and great marking skills. Overall we were runners up in the Shield Tournament, which was a great achievement as we were playing A and B teams.
