Once again, the generous donations of provisions from girls, parents and staff have been given to the Purley Food Hub. Set up nearly six years ago, to date the Hub has provided 127,000 meals to local people in need. But that’s not its only role, we were told by the Hub’s Helen Harris at yesterday’s Harvest Festival assembly; although it’s a very busy place, volunteers find the time to listen to clients who often want to speak to someone who will show kindness and not judge them. They can also put people in touch with other organisations that can help them with issues they are facing.
Our Sacred Heart Ribbon, Winifred, also a volunteer, and the initiator of four years of Harvest Festival donations to the Purley Food Hub, spoke at assembly as well. She reminded us that service to our community is both valuable and valued and that it’s very much a team effort.
