Woldingham Sixth Former Olivia Foster has been selected to represent Great Britain in Alpine Skiing at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOF). Just 27 British athletes will compete at the EYOF, which will be held in Sarajevo & East Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 9 to 16 February, and Olivia will be following in the footsteps of athletes such as skier Chemmy Alcott, who graduated from youth events to representing Team GB at Olympic Winter Games.
Olivia became a member of the Senior British team in May 2017, following several years representing GB at Junior level. Among her many successes whilst a student at Woldingham have been: taking the British U16 title for the Super G/GS combined in 2016; winning races at the Trofeu Borrufa International Races in Andorra in 2017, helping the GB team to a best-ever second place; winning gold in the U18 slalom at the English Alpine Championships, taking the British U18 SG title and, most recently, winning her first adult race in 2018.
Olivia has managed to combine skiing and academic success, achieving 6A*-As among her nine GCSEs, and also representing Woldingham at every team sport. She is currently working towards her A Levels this summer.
Olivia’s mother, Mrs Juliet Foster said: “Representing Great Britain at the EYOF is an amazing opportunity for Liv and we are so proud of her and all her hard work and dedication. We’re extremely excited about the event and very grateful that Woldingham continues to support her in her sporting goals, as well as her academic ones.”
Headmistress, Mrs Alex Hutchinson, commented: “As well as being extremely proud of Olivia for this GB call up, she is a superb example of Woldingham’s determination that girls balance their studies with their commitment to their wider interests. We all wish her every success next month.”
