Year 10 geographers had an early start to their fieldtrip to Swanage in Dorset, leaving at 7.30am in the bright sunshine that was to stay with us the whole weekend. Arriving at Studland three hours later, we took the ferry to Sandbanks, from where we walked along the beach and through the sand dunes, noting successional changes. Our next stop was the sandstone cliffs of Redend Point, Studland, where we lunched before kayaking along the coast towards the chalk formations known as Old Harry Rocks.
After a night at the YHA in Swanage, a hearty breakfast prepared everyone for the day’s data collection fieldwork at four sites along the River Wey, just north of Weymouth. On returning to the YHA, the girls had some downtime in Swanage before supper, finishing the day with a write-up of the fieldwork results.
Another gloriously sunny day greeted us on Sunday - perfect weather for our visit to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. A long walk and a climb brought the reward of spectacular views along the Jurassic coast, after which everyone enjoyed an ice cream on the beach in the cove, before setting off home to Woldingham. Thanks to Mrs Jenkins, Miss Bennett and honorary geographer Ms Cross for their hard work on the trip and to the girls, who threw themselves into everything with brilliant good humour.
