22 May 2019
Guest of honour at our annual Sports Dinner was Shaunagh Brown, who plays rugby for England Women and was part of this year’s Six Nations squad, despite having only taken up the sport at the age of 25. Shaunagh’s earlier sporting success had come in hammer throwing, at which she represented England at the Commonwealth Games, and she is also a fully-qualified firefighter and commercial diver. As well as presenting the awards, Shaunagh spoke inspiringly about her sporting career and impressed on us the importance of making the most of opportunities presented to you (as she so clearly has), having confidence in who you are and sheer hard work.
The major awards for the evening were presented to:
Team of the Year: U13A Netball
The Castle Cup: Georgie Cannock
Outstanding Contribution to School Sport (Highly Commended): Liv Foster and Lauren Hindley
Outstanding Contribution to School Sport (The Sacred Heart Cup): Georgia Velasco
Sports Personality of the Year: Lauren Hindley
Sportswoman of the Year: Liv Foster
