Just before half term, Mrs Hutchinson and I went to the United States to meet alumnae and members of the Sacred Heart community and raise awareness of the newly launched US development plan. In support of the Woldingham School Bursary programme, ‘Women in Business – supporting the next generation’ is a networking platform for our US based alumnae combined with a collaborative approach to funding a transformational bursary over the next five years.
We flew to New York and met with the Heads and Development teams at the Sacred Heart schools in Manhattan and Greenwich, Connecticut. It was wonderful to make the connection with our sister schools on the East Coast. We hosted our first Women in Business panel discussion at the Harvard Club of New York City with a brilliant group of old girls who shared their workplace experiences, and this was followed by a fundraiser dinner. It was a fabulous evening filled with enthusiastic and insightful opinions about the working world and wonderful stories about Woldingham. We were thrilled that our auction at the end of the evening raised over $600 and that most of the guests pledged to support the US alumnae-funded bursary as well.
From New York we travelled to Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, hosting an alumnae lunch and brunch respectively in each beautiful location. We are extremely grateful to those alumnae who took the time to meet us or helped host an event and we are delighted that so many have offered their support to the US alumnae-funded transformational bursary. It was an extremely successful trip and we look forward to the next one.
