Showcasing musical theatre collaboration with Orpheus Centre

12 February 2020

On a stormy February evening, it was a delight to huddle up in the Barn Theatre at the Orpheus Centre (a local specialist college for young adults with disabilities) in the company of our friends there while we were treated to a showcase of musical theatre from Orpheus students and some of our Year 8 girls. Charlotte, Katie, Lottie, Grace G and Grace L give of their time each week to attend a class there with some of the students, rehearsing songs and dance from musicals. The showcase on Monday 10 February allowed the group to premiere their Aladdin medley, as well as individual pieces. It is thanks to the dedication and commitment of the group, and their wonderful and infinitely patient tutor, Heidi, that staff and parents were able to attend such an event.  It is always a joy to see our Woldingham and Orpheus collaboration in action and very life affirming to watch friendships developing without barriers or prejudice, and see inclusion for all, whatever one’s abilities.  Deputy Head Ms Ward visited the college for the first time to watch the showcase and commented, “I loved it and I hope to be back very soon.”
