Woldingham sport scholar, and passionate hockey player, Alex Sewell has received a Sporting Excellence Award from Caterham Rotary Club. Rotarian Sarah Berke, who organised this year’s Award, said the standard of applications submitted was very high and the judges were unanimous in deciding that the Award should be shared this year between three local students who are excelling in their respective sports.
Alex, Year 10, was nominated for the Award by Director of Sport Mrs Caroline Treacy who commented, 'Alex represents Woldingham in all of our major sports, hockey, netball, cricket and athletics, though her passion lies in hockey. One of Alex’s most endearing characteristics is humility. She doesn’t want to take all of the glory, preferring to share it with team mates … she is a real team player!'
Alex has been selected to play hockey for Kent and is on the perimeter of being selected to play for England in the future. The money she won as her prize will be used to further her sporting development.
