Miss Jamie Gallagher, Head of Chemistry
On Wednesday 17 June Year 11 and Lower Sixth medical school hopefuls took part in a full day online course to help prepare them for their University Clinical Aptitude Test. The course was run by Dr Patrick Cook, a Junior Doctor currently working in the intensive care unit at Lewisham Hospital. Patrick studied medicine at King's College London and is an experienced tutor on all aspects of the medical school application process. The students spent the day developing their knowledge and skills for the two-hour computerised test still required by most UK medical schools.
Medical school applicants also have the opportunity to learn from current medical students on Monday 29 June, when two of my former students (Ingrid, who is in her third year at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and has an interest in haematology, and Veronica, who is in her second year at the University of Bristol) will join the live video call during our weekly Medical Society meeting. This will give students the opportunity to get further advice and support in writing personal statements and comparing different medical schools.
