Congratulations to Lower Sixth Formers Edwina and Ploy who are winners in the Young Money Challenge 2020.
In the summer term, taking advantage of the cancellation of GCSE exams, Year 11 students took part in our Brave New Wold programme, which was designed to help them make a successful transition into Sixth Form.
Alongside an introduction to their chosen A Level subjects, an exploration of career options and learning skills that would help them in their Sixth Form studies, students had the opportunity to enter the Young Money Challenge. Organised by Young Enterprise, a charity that motivates young people to succeed in the changing world of work, the Young Money Challenge 2020 looked at responsible consumerism and the impact that it can have both on the environment and our own finances.
Edwina and Ploy chose to work as a team on the topic of food waste. After extensive research they wrote an article and designed a poster to raise awareness of the subject and were “over the moon” to learn recently that their entry had been chosen as the category winner. The judges, one of whom was the CEO of the Bank of Ireland, commented that they were “so impressed by their beautifully vibrant and eye-catching poster as well as their simple and achievable solutions to food waste.”
