Fr Gerry Devlin, Chaplain
When we celebrated Mass on Ash Wednesday (26 February) the Gospel reading was the “Parable of the Talents” (Matthew 25:14-30) and I invited various groups from the school community to take on a challenge. I gave each group leader an envelope containing £30 and asked them to work with other staff and students to use the £30 as a starting point for raising more money for charity. Sadly, soon afterwards the school went into lockdown due the COVID pandemic, but Mr Jeff Wiseman and the Estates department took on the challenge and managed to raise the magnificent total of £600 – also handing me back the £30 which I had given to them at the Mass.
The money raised will be given to the Cardinal Hume Centre in “The Big Give” Christmas Challenge and the cheque we send will be doubled thanks to the generous pledge from the Children’s Trust.
I would like to thank Jeff and the Estates team for their wonderful effort in raising such a great sum of money which will make a difference this Christmas in helping the homeless and families who need our support at this time.
