Miss Stacey Williams, Director of Drama
In early December, our Year 11 GCSE Drama students and Upper Sixth Formers taking A Level Drama & Theatre Studies participated in their ‘Devised Theatre’ exam components. For this, they had to create original theatre from a range of stimuli. Our students worked tirelessly, with a high level of professionalism and unwavering dedication to their classmates and their personal goals, to produce creatively intelligent theatre covering themes including dementia, personal stories from the Twin Towers and political ignorance. In this difficult term, no matter what obstacles they faced, from the beginning of the process to the final moment of the performances, each student went above and beyond.
As we move into 2021, the drama department aims, with optimism, to bring to Woldingham the larger production plans we have launched by means of a year bubble rota this term. These include extracts from Chicago (Upper Sixth), Blood Brothers and an adaptation of Macbeth (Lower Sixth), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (Year 10) and from Years 7-9 West End Wold, extracts from a selection of West End shows that were closed due to lockdown. We may have to bring them to our school community in a non-traditional fashion, or plans might have to alter along the way, but we hope that in 2021 we can spread a little theatrical magic to all, once again.
