Inter-House competitions are always competitive at Woldingham and the contest for the best Christmas-decorated tutor room was no exception. Rooms were dressed in paper chains and stars; windows painted with snowflakes and snowmen; ceilings and lab skeletons covered in lights; roaring fires lit up screens; and even the History department’s cardboard cut-out of Queen Elizabeth I wore tinsel and a santa hat.
During tutor time on Friday 11 December, the judging panel of Dr Whitehead and other members of the School Leadership team each visited one year group’s tutor rooms, occasionally receiving chocolates or mince pies, which of course didn’t affect their decisions in the least. The winners in each year group were:
Marden – Barat B (Mme Maillot)
Year 9 – Barat A (Mr Currie)
Year 10 – Stuart A (Mr Tait)
Year 11 – Digby B (Mrs Burdett)
Lower Sixth – Digby B (Miss Williams)
Upper Sixth – Stuart (Miss Noble)
Year 11 Digby B scooped the overall title for the highly original and creative “Lapland Air” concept, with Lower Sixth Digby B runner up.
On the penultimate day of term, everyone enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch, albeit at staggered times in year group bubbles. This was followed by dessert al fresco, for which the day’s Christmas jumpers came in handy. Waffles, mince pies and chocolate brownies provided the perfect fuel for last activity of the day – ‘festive’ line dancing.
The final morning of term brought our Awards Assembly, with students recognised for a host of fantastic and varied achievements. And then there was the burning question whether students would be treated to a staff panto this year… Oh yes they would!
