Mrs Caroline Treacy, Director of Sport
The PE department has set up an exciting sporting initiative for this half term in our #VirtualValley: the Lockdown Landmark Challenge. Students set their own challenge to run, walk or cycle the distance to a landmark of their choosing, anywhere they want. Of course, this is a virtual challenge, so they’re not actually travelling to their landmark, but it is a great opportunity for students to progress towards a motivating target. The PE department will monitor students’ progress.
Our Sports Ribbon, Sophie Foster, launched this challenge for us – you can watch her video here. Leading by example, Sophie has set her sights on Durham University (her “dream university”) as her landmark, a whopping 450km from Woldingham! As you would expect, the PE team is getting involved as well – I am running to my old school in Hertfordshire, a distance of around 50km.
We will keep you posted on how Sophie and everyone else is getting on. If any more students would like to take part in the challenge, just visit the Student Common Room Team, sign up and keep us in the loop on your progress.
