Students successfully apply knowledge in challenging UK Chemistry Olympiad

12 May 2021

We are very proud of our students who were awarded certificates in the challenging UK Chemistry Olympiad, an annual competition run by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Although open to younger students, the two-hour paper is aimed at Upper Sixth students and requires the application of knowledge to real and relevant chemistry problems, rather than the recall of information learnt. It is also seen as an opportunity to develop some of the skills for study at university and beyond.

Well done to all our certificate winners, with a special mention to Anna for being awarded a certificate in Year 11:

Gold Bronze
Alice R, Upper Sixth Og O, Upper Sixth
Imogen B, Upper Sixth Jungwon C, Lower Sixth
  Eleisha S, Lower Sixth
Silver Teresa F, Lower Sixth
Gemma N, Upper Sixth Anthea L, Lower Sixth

Anna W, Year 11

More than 7,000 students took part in this year’s UK Chemistry Olympiad, with 33% achieving Bronze certificates, 23% Silver and just 9% Gold.
