Mrs Caroline Treacy, Director of Sport
Rain may have stopped play on our highly anticipated first official fixtures of the season last weekend, but we have made up for it this week with cricket, tennis, rounders and athletics fixtures.
Our U12 cricketers made an excellent fixture debut at the Surrey Starburst tournament, as Miss May describes below, while the U14’s enjoyed tennis and athletics, the U15’s tennis, and the seniors even managed to squeeze in a game of rounders between their exams. It has been a delight to be back out competing with other schools and we’re looking forward to many more fixtures over the coming weeks.
Miss Alison May, Teacher of PE
On Tuesday 11 May we went to the Surrey Starburst Tournament at Ewell Cricket Club with a squad of 10 Year 7 players, captained by Leonora S, and vice captain, Amelia C.
The weather was perfect for cricket with not too much wind and lots of sun. The team had a great start against Farnham Heath End School, winning a very close game by 237 runs to 236. Our next match was against Ibstock Place, which we sadly lost 230 runs to 267, but it was still lots of fun all the same.
As we finished second in our section in the morning, we went into the Silver Team play-offs in the afternoon competing against two other schools which were also runners up in their sections. We had a great match against George Abbot School, but just lost, 243 runs to 248. Next up was Tormead. We lost the toss and they opted to field first. The match was very tense, and we had some great batting and bowling, but we lost 248 runs to 254, another close match. This was our last match but we all had a blast and it was lovely to compete against other schools and to have a change of location.
