Ms Amanda Owens, Librarian
The Children’s Book Project, a charity based in London, works across the UK to redistribute thousands of new and gently used books to children and their families. Research has shown that there is a 10-month difference in the language development of 11-year-old children from a ‘book rich’ home compared with those from a ‘book poor’ home. One of our students asked if I could organise a book drive to collect children’s books for this very worthy charity, which I was more than happy to do. The response from parents, staff and students has been fantastic and 1200 books were handed in at school. In addition, many books have also been taken to one of the charity’s drop-off points by some of our London-based parents. Thank you so much to everyone who donated. These books will give other children much pleasure.
