Director of Music Mr John Hargreaves introduced this year’s House Music Festival Final on Thursday 17 June as “a celebration of music with an air of competition”, and a joyful celebration it was for our socially distanced live audience of boarders and staff and those watching the livestream at home.
Fifteen dedicated and skilful finalists treated us to the highlights of the House Music Festival performances, which took place either side of the half term break. Voice, strings, wind instruments and piano brought us everything from Debussy’s Prelude from Pour Le Piano to She Used To Be Mine from The Waitress, by Nelson.
Our guest adjudicator, Lesley Larkum, violinist, composer, conductor, and Head of Strings at Dulwich College for 22 years, thanked all the performers for a wonderful concert and described the task of choosing winners as “unenviable”, so difficult was it.
