Woldingham’s multicultural community makes for a magical evening

30 September 2021

Luba, International Ribbon

On Wednesday 29 September we had an amazing evening of celebration at Woldingham’s first International Showcase Evening since 2019, last year’s having to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

There are almost 40 different nationalities represented within the Woldingham community, so hosting an event like this was a great opportunity for students to share their cultures in an engaging way. We were treated to music, song and dance from countries including Spain, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Korea, Mexico, Japan, the USA, France and Germany – we were even taught a Chinese card game by students in Year 11 and enjoyed singing a sea shanty with Mrs Clayton. It was delightful to see so many enthusiastic participants, who I’m sure have encouraged others to put themselves forward for future events.

Thank you to the students and members of staff who performed and helped to organise the show, and to the fantastic, very supportive audience. This was a magical, fun and highly enjoyable evening, which gathered us together once again. After days like this, the school truly feels like home.

We are looking forward to many more celebrations like this with the help of our newly-formed cultural committee.
