It was an honour and privilege to take part in The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant on Sunday 5 June. My band, Croydon Steel Orchestra, joined three others to become the United Kingdom All Steel Percussion Orchestra. We practised for months, but especially intensely in the week leading up to the Jubilee celebrations. I spent almost my entire half term break at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill, sometimes rehearsing till 10.00pm.
On the historic day, we played on the Victoria stage, next to Buckingham Palace, close to the famous balcony. I met so many prominent, famous and distinguished people. My highlight was sharing the stage with Ed Sheeran. It was such a beautiful and amazing day with so many different attractions, cultures, music, jubilation, and celebration. The air was constantly filled with great excitement.
The biggest surprise was the Royal Family coming out on the balcony. Having the Queen so close to me was such a magnificent moment. I really loved the Platinum Jubilee - it was so much fun and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Though I'd do it again if I could!
