Lower Sixth students received a talk on the law during this week’s THRIVE session.
Using real life case studies, solicitor-advocate Russell Robinson illustrated some of the common pitfalls that can lead young people into conflict with the law, including through alcohol, youthful exuberance or even a mis-placed sense of what is funny. Russell looked at on-line bullying and trolling and dealt with the topic of sexual offences, including consent. He also explained people’s right to free legal advice if arrested.
Russell concluded his direct and engaging talk by emphasising the negative effect ignorance of the law can have on young people’s future, including limiting higher education, job and travel opportunities.
