Creativity, dedication and ambition on show at art and textiles summer exhibition

1 July 2022

Miss Siobhan Campbell, Head of Art

Creativity and dedication were evident in every piece of work by our Year 11 GCSE and Sixth Form art and textiles students at this week’s summer exhibition.

Year 11 artists displayed part of their GCSE coursework project, with personalised themes such as ‘Dystopia’, ‘Environment’ and ‘Identity’.  The Lower Sixth art students exhibited their ‘Chair’ project, which resulted in mini installations, and their personal themes conveyed through high quality drawings, paintings and sculpture. Mannequins proudly displayed the Lower Sixth textiles pieces on the theme ‘Clans, Cultures and Tribes’, demonstrating sculptural and surface approaches and refencing high couture.

Upper Sixth students’ responses to their personal themes came through very strongly. Upper Sixth A Level art students presented their final ideas in a variety of materials: mixed media digital installation, 3D work and film, as well as large pieces truly ambitious in scale. Upper Sixth A Level textiles students also took a range of different approaches with lively, sculptural and textural pieces among installations and film.

There was a vibrant buzz at this well attended exhibition. It was lovely to celebrate with students, staff and parents – thank you everyone who was able to attend. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
