Ms Nicole Weatherston, Deputy Head Academic
In the weeks immediately after half term, Year 7 students took part in a programme titled A Week in China, a fun, engaging and interactive introduction to Chinese culture and language. Students learned about the fundamental basics of Chinese language and culture including the four tones, numbers, greetings and Chinese characters.
The sessions acted as a prelude to this week’s cultural programme for Year 7 - three fun-filled days that included an exploration of Chinese festivals, fireworks, art, literature and a hands-on cookery demonstration. The girls particularly enjoyed the calligraphy session with Mrs Carrilero and Miss Powell and produced some beautiful banners.
On Tuesday 28 June we were treated to a traditional Chinese-themed supper, with a menu devised by our Chinese students, accompanied with bubble tea and rounded off with red bean ice lollies.
Wednesday concluded with Miss Wang teaching Year 7 a traditional Chinese song, Jasmine Flower. To hear their wonderful rendition, click here.
