Students taste the Sixth Form difference

Students taste the Sixth Form difference

17 November 2022

Mr Phil Abbott, Head of Sixth Form

This week, students in Years 10 and 11 explored what makes the Sixth Form at Woldingham so exciting, challenging and different.

Year 11 students enjoyed their ‘taster day’ on Monday 14 November, attending five A Level lessons, as they seek to narrow down their choices from our 28 different subjects on offer and - in the words of one parent - went home ‘buzzing’ about the experience. As well as lessons, the students had a talk giving them a flavour of our Sophia programme, Woldingham’s bespoke course designed to develop critical thinking, conversation and seminar skills that will help students at university and in the world of work. Year 11 students were also able to let their hair down (literally) and take over the Sixth Form coffee bar for the day.

A couple of days later, Year 10 spent an afternoon with the Sixth Form team to learn more about Woldingham’s unique curriculum, the opportunities for growth inside and outside of the classroom and, of course, the brand new Sixth Form Centre, which we hope to be able to confirm planning consent for this term. Year 10 also enjoyed a talk from Upper Sixth Formers on life in the Sixth Form and toured our purpose-built boarding houses, complete with the highly prized ensuite rooms of Shanley House.
