On Sunday 27 November, Year 10 music scholar Fiona played bassoon with the National Children’s Orchestra (NCO) at a concert at Woolwich Works, London for the last time – the culmination of an exciting year with this prestigious orchestra.
In the audience was Woldingham’s Director of Music Mr John Hargreaves, who described the concert as “fantastic”, adding, “Fiona played really well in what was a very challenging programme of music - a great achievement.”
Fiona has thoroughly enjoyed her year with the National Children’s Orchestra: “For the first time I was able to get to know and play with bassoonists my own age. The orchestra was at an amazing standard and I got to meet and perform with professional musicians as well. We had fantastic tutors on each residential and the opportunity to rehearse and play with renowned conductors Jonathan Bloxham and Natalia Luis-Bassa. I fully recommend anyone under 13 who loves music to audition - it’s the most amazing experience. I am very sad to be leaving but the memories and music we created were amazing and I will never forget my time with the NCO.”
