Swim squads in top form and Lea selected for Surrey Cyclone squad

1 December 2022

There were great performances all round from our Inter and Senior swim teams (main picture) at the district swimming gala at Caterham on Wednesday 30 November, with Lara S (Year 9), Sophie V-E (Year 11) and Maddie L (Upper Sixth) winning their races.

Well done to Year 10 sport scholar Lea G (pictured in gallery below), who is one of just 20 netballers selected for the Surrey Storm Aspire Programme from 80 who were offered trials. Lea is delighted to now be part of the Surrey Cyclone squad. She begins fortnightly training very soon, with monthly matches.

Mr Ben Allberry, Head of Hockey

Our 1st XI team is through to the next round of the Independent Schools Hockey Plate after an excellent victory against Worth on Tuesday 29 November.

With the previous three games against this opposition only being decided by a single goal we knew it would be another tough encounter. Woldingham quickly found their stride and created early chances only to be thwarted by Worth’s talismanic captain and goalkeeper. Midway through the first half some excellent passing won Woldingham the first penalty corner, which was neatly converted by Rosie J after a slick routine. Worth created few chances after this until the final play of the half, when they were awarded a penalty corner of their own. Our defence stood strong and Anna M dealt comfortably with the threat to keep the score 1-0 to Woldingham.

As the second half went on, Worth started to tire and Woldingham used this to our advantage. Some quick thinking by Oli M gave captain Alex S time in the circle and, after beating one player, she unleased an unstoppable shot into the roof of the Worth net. 2-0 to Woldingham. Despite the next nervy few minutes, Woldingham held out and won the match. Worth, always tough opposition, were excellent hosts.

The team now progresses to the next round against Hurst, to be played at Woldingham on Tuesday 6 December at 17:15. Everyone is welcome to come and support the team. A win would take Woldingham through to the national quarter finals. Good luck!
