Alumnae from the world of media, advertising and journalism advise students to ‘be bold’ and ‘take risks’

6 February 2023

Mr Rob Philbin, Careers Advisor

On Tuesday 31 January, students, parents and staff had the privilege of hearing from Woldingham alumnae working in the fields of media, advertising and journalism during our first careers panel event of 2023.

Our expert speakers offered a glimpse into the day-to-day responsibilities of their roles, which included a media planner, production manager and communication manager, and broader insights into their fields of expertise. They shared lots of great guidance based on their career experiences, such “Be bold, be positive and take risks”. I found the phrase “Climb the ladder, but don’t pull it up after you” particularly insightful. Thank you to all our panellists – Claudia Brewster (2012), Katie Forcey (2001), Lauren McGurran (2011), Natasha O’Connor (1994), Tania Ripoll (1981) and Helen Turner (1996) - for giving up their time to advise students looking ahead to taking that first step on the career ladder.

We are already looking forward to our next panel event on Tuesday 7 March, where our speakers will be talking about in careers in sustainability.
