Academy Award and BAFTA nominee Eddie Hamilton demonstrated that dreams can come true as he talked to students, staff and parents about his amazing career as a film editor at STEM Live on Tuesday 31 January. From becoming obsessed with films at the age of eight, Eddie has now worked on some of the biggest movie blockbusters, including several Mission Impossible films, the Kingsman series and Top Gun: Maverick, for which he has received the recent Oscar and BAFTA nominations.
It was inspiring to hear from someone right at the top of their game, but Eddie, who is a Woldingham parent, was keen to impress upon students that they too could be successful in the film business if they have the passion and dedication for any one of the many fields it offers – editing, visual effects, set design, make-up … the list is long. Eddie explained that a key factor in the ‘dedication’ required is a great deal of hard work: “keep practising and you will become very good”.
That Eddie feels all the hard work has been worth it was clear to all from his energy, enthusiasm and encouragement to the next generation to consider joining his industry. Anyone in the audience with similar – perhaps newly-formed - aspirations will now feel this is ‘mission possible’.
