At the start of the half term holiday, students in Years 10 to Upper Sixth studying Latin, classical civilisation and theology, accompanied by Head of Classics Dr Dixon and Head of Theology Mr Ross, headed to Rome for a few days to develop a wider understanding of their subjects and to enjoy some of the Eternal City’s more modern experiences.

Our fantastic visit to Rome began on Friday 10 February. Some of the highlights of the first day were the National Gallery of Modern Art, Ara Pacis Museum and National Archaeology Museums, where we all marvelled at the beautiful and amazingly well-preserved frescoes. On the second day we saw the wonderfully impressive Colosseum, the Forum and Palatine Hill. It was fantastic to visit these landmarks, which are so well-known around the world. Later in the day we went bowling, which helped us to get to know each other better as we came from a range of year groups.
On the third day we did a lovely walking tour of the city and saw the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Pantheon before spending the afternoon in Rome’s fascinating Jewish Museum. On our final day we had a guided tour of the Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Bascilia, where Mr Ross and Dr Dixon went on a successful hunt for a statue of St Madeleine Sophie Barat. There was also time for some souvenir shopping and, throughout our trip, we enjoyed lots of tasty pizza, pasta, and gelato.
We learnt a lot from Dr Dixon and our tour guides while taking in the sights of beautiful Rome on this wonderful and inspirational trip.
