Woldingham is proud and delighted to learn that three of our drama and performing arts scholars – Maya-Rose T and Sophia T in Year 7 and Alexandra A-S in Year 10 - have been invited to join the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT), following several rounds of auditions.
NYMT offers exceptional opportunities in pre-professional, musical theatre training for young people aged 10 to 23 years through skills workshops, master classes and residential courses led by industry professionals, through commissioning and presentation of exciting new work and new realisations of major works of the core repertoire.
Alexandra has been offered a role in the NYMT’s world première of The boy who sailed the ocean in an armchair, written and composed by Jordan Li-Smith and based on the novel by Lara Williamson. Following residential rehearsals in the Easter and summer holidays, Alexandra will do final rehearsals at the Curve Theatre, Leicester, where she will appear in several performances.
Maya-Rose and Sophia have been cast in When I Grow Up, a showcase of semi-staged musical theatre extracts on the theme of growing up, that will be performed in July at Fuse Festival, Kingston. They will also attend rehearsals in the Easter holidays.
Woldingham’s Director of Drama Miss Stacey Williams, who is well aware how strong the competition for NYMT places is, described the news as “A wonderful achievement” by all three scholars.
