Fantastic first foray into the great outdoors for Rock Climbing Club

Mr Richard Brinkmann, Outdoor Adventure and Education Manager

On Sunday 19 November, Woldingham’s Rock Climbing club tackled the challenge of Harrisons Rocks in Sussex. This was the club’s first foray into outdoor climbing following our weekly indoor sessions at Volume 1, a local bouldering centre.

The transition from the controlled environment of the climbing wall to the natural sandstone formations provided a refreshing change in this tranquil setting. As they navigated the rock surfaces, the students not only tested their climbing skills but also discovered the simple joys of being surrounded by nature.

Harrison’s Rocks is a unique setting and the session, part of Woldingham’s expanding outdoor education offering, created a laid-back yet transformative experience. This outdoor adventure wasn't just about scaling rocks; it fostered a sense of camaraderie as our climbers supported each other through the ups and downs of the natural terrain. The trip struck a balance between pushing limits and savouring the beauty of the great outdoors, showcasing that climbing is not only a physical endeavour but also an opportunity to connect with nature and each other.
